B & W Wrecker Service

Frequently Asked Questions

Boise, Idaho  |  Serving the Treasure Valley & Beyond Since 1959

Whether you’re a motorist stranded on I-84, a truck driver with a rig on its side, or a fleet manager trying to minimize downtime, B & W Wrecker Service has the equipment, the experience, and the team to handle it. Below you’ll find answers to the frequently asked questions we hear most — organized by service area to help you find exactly what you need, fast.

Towing Service

Is B & W available on nights and weekends, or only during business hours?2026-04-30T15:47:43+00:00

We are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Trucks don’t break down on a schedule, and neither do we. Whether it’s 2 AM on a Sunday or a holiday, call 208-342-2541 and we’ll dispatch a crew to help you.

Does B & W tow RVs and motorhomes? I’ve had tow companies turn me away before because of the size.2026-04-30T15:47:12+00:00

We specialize in RV and motorhome towing and won’t turn you away based on size. We handle everything from fifth-wheel setups and Class A motorhomes to motorcoaches and shuttle buses. Our operators understand the unique challenges of towing large recreational vehicles — proper weight distribution, tow points, and road clearance — so your home-on-wheels is in capable hands.

I’m a fleet manager with multiple vehicles that need to be towed. Can B & W handle that type of work?2026-04-30T15:46:15+00:00

Yes. We regularly work with fleet managers and commercial operations. We have the capacity — with more than 21 trucks plus Landoll trailers — to coordinate multi-vehicle transport, equipment and container moving, decking and undecking, and trailer exchanges. Call us and let’s talk through your specific needs. We’ll work with your schedule and minimize disruption to your operations.

What’s the difference between a flatbed tow and wheel-lift? Which will you use on my car?2026-04-30T15:45:04+00:00

Wheel-lift towing, sometimes referred to as hook-and-chain towing, allows the front or rear wheels to roll while the other set is supported by a wheel-lift. If performed by an inexperienced tow truck operator, this method can damage drivetrains, transmissions, and tires. Flatbed towing lifts all four wheels completely off the ground, which is the manufacturer preferred option for most all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles. At B & W Wrecker, we always assess your specific vehicle and situation and use the method that best protects it.

Can you tow a motorcycle, or do I need a specialty service?2026-04-30T15:41:20+00:00

We tow motorcycles regularly and have the proper equipment to do it safely — no improvised tie-downs or improvised loading ramps. We use specialty trailers designed for motorcycles to make sure your bike arrives at its destination without a scratch. One call to us and your bike is in good hands.

My car is electric. Can you tow it without damaging the drivetrain?2026-04-30T15:40:36+00:00

Absolutely — and this is an important question to ask any tow company. Many standard tow operators aren’t familiar with the specific requirements of electric vehicles, which can sustain serious drivetrain damage if towed incorrectly. Our operators are trained in the proper handling of EVs and use flatbed equipment to transport them safely. Your investment is protected when you call B & W.

Do you offer long-distance towing, or are you limited to the Treasure Valley?2026-04-30T15:40:05+00:00

We’re not limited to the Treasure Valley. B & W Wrecker Service is authorized for multi-state heavy-duty towing and recovery across Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, and Nevada. Whether you need a disabled vehicle transported across town or across state lines, we have the trucks and the authorization to get the job done.

My car broke down on the side of I-84. How long will it take for someone to get to me?2026-04-30T15:39:34+00:00

With locations in Boise, Nampa, Mountain Home, Jordan Valley (OR), and Pasco (WA), we stage trucks across the region specifically so we can respond quickly wherever you’re stranded. Response times vary based on your exact location and current call volume, but our goal is always to get to you as fast as safely possible. Call us at 208-342-2541 and we’ll give you an honest ETA the moment you call.

What types of vehicles can B & W Wrecker Service tow?2026-04-30T15:39:04+00:00

We can tow virtually any vehicle on the road. Our fleet handles everything from motorcycles, passenger cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs to electric vehicles, RVs, motorhomes, buses, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, and heavy construction equipment. We also transport shipping containers using our Landoll and lowboy trailers. If it’s on wheels — or used to be — we can move it.

Roadside Assistance

What roadside assistance services do you provide for motorcycles?2026-04-30T15:56:18+00:00

We provide jumpstarts, fuel delivery, and motorcycle towing when roadside solutions aren’t possible. We understand that a motorcycle breakdown often leaves riders more vulnerable than car drivers — especially at night or in bad weather — so we prioritize getting to you quickly and safely.

The lug nuts on my tire are seized and won’t budge. Are you equipped for that?2026-04-30T15:55:08+00:00

Yes — and this happens more often than people think. Lug nuts can seize from years of overtightening, rust, or corrosion. Our operators carry the tools and know-how to break loose seized fasteners without damaging the wheel or studs. We also deal with stuck spare release mechanisms and flat or shredded spare tires. The complications that stop a roadside service amateur won’t stop us.

I have a flat tire on the highway. It’s a busy road and I’m nervous. Will you handle the tire change?2026-04-30T15:54:04+00:00

That’s exactly what we’re here for. Changing a tire on a busy highway shoulder is genuinely dangerous, and your safety is more important than a quick fix. Our operators are trained in roadside safety protocols — we can move your vehicle to a safe location, set up proper traffic control, position our truck to protect you from passing traffic, and handle the tire change with the right equipment. You stay safe while we do the work.

I ran out of diesel in my semi. Will you bring enough to get me to the next truck stop?2026-04-30T15:52:23+00:00

Yes. We deliver diesel to commercial vehicles and understand the particular headaches a fuel-out situation creates for truck drivers — missed delivery windows, frustrated dispatchers, and potential issues with diesel engine priming after running dry. We’ll bring you enough fuel to get rolling and, if needed, help you address any priming issues so the engine restarts properly.

I ran out of gas on the highway. Can you bring fuel to me?2026-04-30T15:51:52+00:00

Yes. We provide fuel delivery for both gasoline and diesel vehicles throughout the Boise area and surrounding region. Running out of fuel happens to everyone, and we’re not here to judge — we’re here to get you moving again. Give us a call and tell us where you are, what you’re driving, and what fuel you need, and we’ll bring it to you.

I locked my keys in my semi at a truck stop. Do you handle commercial vehicle lockouts?2026-04-30T15:51:20+00:00

We do. A commercial vehicle lockout is a serious time and money problem — your keys, your logbook, and your ability to make your delivery are all on the wrong side of a locked door. We’re equipped for commercial vehicle locks and respond quickly to get you back on the road. One call to 208-342-2541 and we’re on our way.

I locked my keys in my car. Will you damage my vehicle to get inside?2026-04-30T15:50:30+00:00

No. We use professional, damage-free lockout tools and techniques specifically designed to open your vehicle without scratching paint, cracking weather stripping, or damaging seals or glass. Attempting a DIY lockout with a coat hanger or wedge tool is one of the fastest ways to cause expensive damage. Call us and we’ll get you in quickly and cleanly.

I’m a truck driver with a dead battery situation. Semi-trucks run on multiple batteries — can you handle that?2026-04-30T15:49:49+00:00

Yes. Commercial truck battery systems are different from passenger vehicles, and we’re equipped and trained to handle multi-battery 12V and 24V systems. We’ve seen it all — batteries that won’t hold a charge in extreme Idaho cold, batteries that need a pull-start sequence rather than a standard jump, and everything in between. If your rig won’t start, call us and we’ll figure it out.

I have a dead battery. Can B & W jump-start my car, or will they just tow it?2026-04-30T15:49:01+00:00

We’ll jump-start you first. A tow is the last resort, not the first move. Our operators carry professional-grade jump-start equipment and will get you going whenever possible. We also know that what looks like a dead battery is sometimes a failing alternator, bad starter, or another underlying issue — so we’ll give you an honest assessment on the spot. If the vehicle needs more than a jump, we’ll tell you straight and discuss your options.

Heavy Duty Towing

I need a tractor-trailer towed, but I also need the trailer decoupled and stored separately. Can you handle that?2026-04-30T16:03:11+00:00

Yes. We regularly perform decking, undecking, and trailer exchanges as part of our heavy-duty towing operations. If you need the tractor and trailer handled separately, or need the trailer stored at our secure facility while the tractor goes to a shop, we can coordinate all of that for you. We also have forklifts on-site to assist with cargo management.

My truck has a load that needs to stay on the trailer during towing. Can you accommodate that?2026-04-30T16:02:26+00:00

Depending on the nature of the load, the damage to the truck, and the recovery situation, we can often transport a loaded trailer. In cases where the load needs to be secured, shifted, or transferred to a different trailer, we handle that as part of our recovery and towing service. We’ll assess the situation when we arrive and give you an honest rundown of the safest and most efficient approach.

How do you handle long-distance heavy-duty towing? My truck needs to go 400 miles.2026-04-30T16:01:41+00:00

Long-distance towing is something we do routinely. We are authorized for heavy-duty towing across Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, and Nevada. Our heavy-duty tow trucks are fully capable of long-haul transport, and we’ll make sure your rig is secured properly for the distance. Call us with your location and destination and we’ll get a plan in place.

My truck broke down in a remote area off the main highway. Can you reach me?2026-04-30T16:00:53+00:00

Yes. We specialize in off-road and remote recovery for commercial vehicles, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and more. Our recovery assets include winching equipment and off-road capable trucks designed to reach vehicles that aren’t accessible from the pavement. Rough terrain, muddy fields, mountain roads — we’ve worked in all of it. Call us and tell us where you are and what you’re driving.

Can B & W handle dump trucks and specialty commercial vehicles, not just tractor-trailers?2026-04-30T16:00:15+00:00

Absolutely. We tow and recover dump trucks, bucket trucks, utility trucks, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, buses, and a wide range of oversized commercial vehicles. If it’s a commercial or heavy vehicle, we have the equipment and trained operators to handle it — including off-road recovery when equipment has gone off the pavement.

I manage a fleet of 30 trucks. What can B & W offer us as a preferred towing partner?2026-04-30T15:59:18+00:00

Fleet partnerships are a big part of what we do. We provide 24/7 heavy-duty towing and roadside assistance, multi-state authorization across seven states, decking and undecking, trailer exchanges, load swaps, and secure storage for disabled units. With multiple locations across the region, we can respond faster than a single-location company. Call our office and let’s have a conversation about setting up a fleet account — we’ll make sure your drivers always have a number to call and a team ready to respond.

My tractor-trailer has a drivetrain failure and the wheels won’t roll. Can you still transport it?2026-04-30T15:58:32+00:00

Yes. When a truck can’t roll, can’t steer, or simply cannot be towed conventionally, that’s exactly when our Landoll and lowboy trailers come in. We’ll load your disabled tractor with all the wheels off the ground — and transport it without causing additional drivetrain damage. This is a service many towing companies can’t provide. We can.

My semi broke down on the interstate. How do I know B & W has the equipment to actually handle it?2026-04-30T15:57:26+00:00

We operate more than 21 trucks — including 50-ton heavy-duty wreckers, rotators, cranes, and Landoll trailers — specifically built for commercial truck recovery. We are the largest and most established towing provider in the Treasure Valley, and we handle semi-truck breakdowns every day. If your rig is down, whether it’s a blown engine, transmission failure, brake issue, or emissions problem, we have the right truck to move it safely and get it where it needs to go.

Heavy Duty Accident Recovery

How do I know you’re qualified for complex heavy-duty accident recovery — not just a towing company that shows up with a big truck?2026-04-30T16:22:06+00:00

Our credentials speak for themselves. Our operators hold certifications from the Emergency Responder Safety Institute (ERSI), Wreckmaster, HAZWOPER, TIMS, and MUTCD — the organizations that set the professional standard for complex incident management and heavy recovery. We’ve been operating since 1959, we are the go-to recovery team for law enforcement and insurance companies throughout the region, and we maintain advanced recovery assets including rotators, cranes, airbag recovery systems, underwater recovery gear, and a dedicated semi-rollover supply trailer. When the scene is complicated and the stakes are high, experience and certification make all the difference.

After the accident, where will my truck and cargo be taken?2026-04-30T16:11:37+00:00

We transport damaged trucks, trailers, and recovered cargo to our secure storage facility, where everything is protected while you coordinate with your insurer, your fleet manager, and repair shops. Our facility is monitored and secure, and we’ll keep you informed about the status of your equipment throughout the process. Nothing gets moved or released without your authorization.

Will B & W coordinate with my trucking company’s insurance provider?2026-04-30T16:10:48+00:00

Yes. We are experienced in working alongside insurance adjusters, investigators, and fleet safety managers throughout the entire process. We document everything — scene conditions, vehicle positions, cargo status, recovery methods used — and communicate clearly how your truck was recovered. Our goal is to mitigate loss and get you the documentation you need to move through the insurance process as smoothly as possible.

The accident happened off the highway on a steep embankment. Can B & W recover from that kind of terrain?2026-04-30T16:08:23+00:00

Yes. Off-road and embankment recoveries are some of the most technically demanding jobs in our industry, and they’re jobs we are built for. Our rotators, cranes, and specialized rigging equipment allow us to reach and recover vehicles in situations where standard wreckers simply can’t operate. We’ve worked embankments, ravines, off-road construction sites, and difficult mountain terrain. Tell us where the vehicle is and we’ll assess the situation and build a recovery plan.

Law enforcement is pressuring us to clear the scene fast. Can B & W work quickly without cutting corners on safety?2026-04-30T16:07:49+00:00

This is something we deal with at every major accident scene. We are TIMS (Traffic Incident Management Safety) and ERSI (Emergency Responder Safety Institute) certified, which means we work hand-in-hand with law enforcement to clear scenes efficiently without compromising safety protocols. We respond immediately with the right equipment, work with a coordinated plan, and communicate clearly with agencies throughout the operation. Fast and safe aren’t mutually exclusive when you have the right team.

My cargo scattered all over the highway during the accident. Can you recover and secure the freight?2026-04-30T16:06:52+00:00

Cargo recovery and protection is a core part of what we do at accident scenes. We quickly secure and recover scattered cargo, coordinate load transfers to a replacement trailer when needed, and ensure your freight is accounted for throughout the process. Perishable goods and high-value freight require urgent attention, and we move fast to minimize loss. Your cargo will be secured before we leave the scene.

There was a fuel spill at the accident scene. Are you equipped to deal with hazardous materials?2026-04-30T16:05:53+00:00

Yes. Our operators are HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) certified, which means we’re trained and equipped to contain fuel spills, hydraulic fluid leaks, and hazardous cargo releases. We manage the hazmat component as part of the overall recovery — containing spills, coordinating cleanup, ensuring regulatory compliance, and documenting everything for your insurance file. We don’t leave a dangerous scene until it’s safe.

Will a rotator actually be able to upright my semi, or is that just for lighter situations?2026-04-30T16:05:16+00:00

Our rotators are purpose-built for exactly these situations. They provide 360-degree rotation capability and enormous lifting capacity that allows our operators to precisely control the uprighting of an overturned tractor-trailer — even in tight or difficult terrain. We have handled countless heavy truck rollovers across the Treasure Valley and on I-84, and our rotator-certified operators know how to execute these recoveries safely, minimizing additional damage to the truck, trailer, and cargo in the process.

My truck was in an accident and it’s on its side. What happens when B & W arrives on scene?2026-04-30T16:04:20+00:00

The moment we arrive, our first priority is scene safety — for our operators, for you, and for anyone else in the area. We secure the accident site with proper traffic control, assess vehicle stability and load security, and contain any fuel or fluid leaks before anything else. Once the scene is controlled, we develop a recovery plan tailored to your specific situation and execute it using our rotators, cranes, and heavy-duty wreckers. We don’t rush a rollover. We work it right.
